Landscape
Scene Creation
For the scene creation, I first gathered references of ink-style landscape paintings and similar 3D ink-style scenes. These helped me determine the general style and color palette. I also looked into modern chess games for inspiration. Using these references, I planned to connect the central chessboard with two water pools and a cave, creating a harmonious landscape scene.
I started with simple lines to sketch the overall composition. The chessboard is placed at the center, surrounded by mountains and lakes.
I blocked in the main colors for the scene: greenish-blue for the mountains, blue for the lakes, and a light yellow tone for the background.
For the mountains, I added gradients and textures to mimic the ink-wash effect seen in Chinese paintings. I used a small brush to paint delicate tree branches and leaves, enhancing the intricate details of the scene. Around the edges of the lakes, I applied a soft blur effect to create a misty, atmospheric look.
The chessboard features a simple grid design with muted colors to blend naturally into the scene without appearing too dominant. Rippling water patterns around the board connect it seamlessly with the surrounding lakes, making the transition feel organic.
Finally, I fine-tuned the overall colors and brightness to ensure harmony in the composition while emphasizing the chessboard as the focal point.
I created a gradient effect for the mountains, transitioning from dark at the base to light at the top, with white highlights at the peaks to depict clouds and mist. For the lakes, I used deep blue and light blue tones, without highlights, to give the water a calm, natural appearance. The tree trunks were drawn with curved lines to evoke the charm of ancient trees. Pink and purple blossoms were scattered across the branches, bringing life and vibrancy to the scene.
